Fil-Am Chamber of Commerce of NC holds 4th Business Gala, Awards Night

ROCKINGHAM, North Carolina—Individuals that ‘go above and beyond’ are poised to receive awards at the 4th Annual Business Gala and Awards Night this Saturday (Nov. 22).


Agnes Higley, founder of the Filipino American Chamber of Commerce of North Carolina, said the 30 awardees have dedicated themselves substantially to community volunteer work, humanitarian efforts and public service both here and abroad in addition to being business owners, entrepreneurs and career professionals. 


The red carpet for these awardees and the 400 guests of the gala will be rolled out at 6 pm at the Durham Convention Center. The keynote speaker is Dr. Vanessa Ervin who is recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review as one of the 50 Influential African American Leaders in Healthcare.  


Dr. Ervin is also the author of the book ‘Purpose Before Position’ and served as chairperson of the Onslow Memorial Hospital Authority. She’s also a national trustee of the North Carolina Healthcare Association Foundation Board.


Dr. Ervin is expected to share her wealth of experience in community service. 


She is a doctor of Ministry of Covenant Seminary and held dual Masters degrees in Rehabilitation Administration and Business from the University of San Francisco.  The good doctor also has a degree in Special Education from the University of New Mexico.


Dr. Ervin lives by her motto that ‘if you don’t care who gets the credit, you can change the world.’


The Filipino American Chamber of Commerce of North Carolina was established on Oct. 5, 2021 to support Filipino Americans who are interested in creating, developing and promoting their businesses locally and abroad.


Agnes Higley founded the Chamber and became its first president when she moved here in North Carolina.  During her stint, the chapter became the fastest growing national chapter and earned a 2023 award for its outstanding programs and membership growth. 


Prior to founding the chamber,  Higley also founded the Filipino American Chamber of Commerce of Utah. 


In Saturday’s gala,  visitors will be treated to a fashion show, raffle draw and a night of dancing. As mentioned, the awarding ceremony for distinguished persons will be held. 


Marylaine Louise Viernes will reprise her role as Master of Ceremonies.
