‘Hibang Sa Musika’ scheduled this Saturday




ROCKINGHAM, North Carolina—Music fans can expect an energetic and sentimental night as six bands, two soloists, one duet and two dance groups take the stage at Matthews Community Auditorium on Saturday, August 29. 


The mini concert dubbed as ‘Hibang sa Musika’ is expected to draw fans from across North Carolina. Tess Olarte, FACC Board Secretary who chairs the event ‘Hibang Musika’ says ‘everything is in place for Saturdays’s big event.’ 


Among the bands scheduled to play in the event are Pinoy Noir, the Bakery, Dust N d Attic, Dis Band, Purple Moon Dust and D’ Amore. 


The love of music among the members of these bands cemented their friendships thtough the years. Such friendships were forged by performing in local events, family gatherings, churches or being front acts of celebrities coming to Charlotte or in North Carolina.


All of these musicians worked in different entities and often meet each other when available all while sharpening their singing and musical skills. 


Also performing are two dance teams—the Kultura Filipina Chx Bomb and Dance Philippines of the Carolinas. These dance teams have also performed in local gigs, public events as well as private parties. Also performing are Don Donato and Melissa. 


The first Hibang was held in 2024 and presented under the Filipino American Spirit (FAS). It was a remarkable success with only two weeks preparation and it was able to enroll one young woman at the Philippine Institute for the Deaf.




‘Hibang sa Musika 2’ was presented by the FACC under the leadership of President Marissa Olarte which benefited FACC Cares and provided charitable assistance locally and in the Philippines. 


And for the third ‘Hibang sa Musika’ sponsored through FACC Cares this year’s proceeds will support the Musikaramay and its feeding program.


Doors open at 5 pm and the show starts at 6 pm. One night of Filipino-American community unity through music memories of a lifetime. 



The Filipino-American Community of the Carolinas Inc. Ledwina goes beyond classrooms for a US masterals law degree

Teston enjoys teaching reading and math to exceptional children at Lexington Middle School and her eyes glowed while telling me this during one Saturday at a Filipino festival sometime ago at Oakridge. This petite Filipina is smart, articulate and intelligent and despite her hectic work schedule she finds time to study law here in the US. She is licensed to teach    in the Philippines and holds a Professional Educator’s License here in the state of North Carolina.  Back in the Philippines she is a sought after speaker in coaching, mentoring and learning and had been a recipient of numerous awards.  She has a double doctorate in education. Kagay-anon native makes it big in New York

By Susan Palmes-Dennis ROCKINGHAM, North Carolina—A remarkable Filipino with roots    in Tagoloan town, Misamis Oriental province in northern Mindanao, Philippines was just appointed Asst. Commissioner of the Nutritional Services Division of the New York City Department of Correction (DOC).  Christine Melody Caylan-Linstromberg assumed her post in November this year. Linstromberg was born in Cagayan de Oro City and spent a few years at Montessori School in Corrales Street.  A granddaughter of Celerino Dodo Casino and Segundina Neri of Sta. Ana, Tagoloan town, Misamis Oriental, Linstromberg’s mother is Eddy Casino Aranez who resides at    New York City. Aranez told this writer that both family and friends are excited for her daughter’s appointment.    ‘We are proud that she is appointed to a most essential public safety agency here in New York,’ Aranez said.
